About Base Pair

Base Pair, initiated in 1992 is a mentorship program that pairs faculty from the University of Mississippi Medical Center with high school students and educators from the Jackson Public School District. Base Pair  provides academic credit towards graduation, career orientation and advanced laboratory training in the biomedical sciences.

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) recently funded the Base Pair program for an additional five years.  The program received a grant of more than $695,000.  HHMI is the largest private supporter of science education initiatives in the world.  For additional information on the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, please click the logo below to visit their website.
