Virus Diseases

This guide is an introductory list to help locate research materials at the Rowland Medical Library. Viruses, the smallest known infectious agent, can cause diseases ranging  from mild to deadly. Viruses cannot reproduce unless they enter a living cell and take over the cell's reproductive mechanism to produce damaging viral components and disease.  Viruses can invade all life forms -mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, plants, algae and bacteria.  Therefore the transmission of a virus and  disease to humans can be complex and variable.  Antiviral therapies continue to present challenges and research opportunities.
