Drug-Resistant Bacteria

This guide is an introductory list to help locate research materials at the Rowland Medical Library.  For over fifty years, antibiotics have been used to treat bacterial infections.  Antibiotics are also used in animal husbandry and agriculture.  Although some bacteria are naturally resistant to drugs, the overuse or abuse of antibiotics has been blamed for causing bacterial resistance.  Many bacteria are now able to resist antibiotics; some strains of bacteria are resistant to every single antibiotic known, more than 100 different drugs.  These types of bacteria are called drug-resistant bacteria.
