Sex Education & Sexually Transmitted Diseases

This guide is an introductory list to help locate research materials at the Rowland Medical Library. Sex education equips students, usually middle- to high-school aged, with information on the physical and the emotional changes caused by their blossoming sexuality. Sex education aims to enable students to make informed decisions in regard to their bodies.  It provides information on the changes in their bodies, sexual intercourse, modes of contraception, and potential adverse effects of sex including teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.  There are more than twenty sexually transmitted diseases that plague the human race; most have no cure and some are lethal.  These diseases are caused by three different types of organisms - parasites, bacteria, and viruses - and are spread via the diverse modes of sexual activity.
