This site highlights a selective list of Internet sources covering various aspects of mentoring. The Internet sources listed here are based on their authoritative nature, scope, and relevance to school and college faculty, students, and others interested in academic partnerships and mentoring. Several of the sites listed on this page are sponsored by professional organizations or originate from top academic institutions.

Academic PROGRAMS:

Science Education Program - University of Alabama at Birmingham

Provides high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to experience first hand the challenges and rewards of biomedical research, introducing the student to laboratory equipment and skills, and conduct meaningful research as part of a team with scientists, fellows, graduate students and technicians.

Bioengineering Outreach Activities - Oregon State University

Is involved in a number of partnership programs between Oregon State University faculty and researchers and K-12 students and teachers.

Alliance for Enhancement of Science Education and Technology - Vanderbilt/Meharry Alliance

Is collaborative effort to enhance science and technology education in seventh-12th grade of the Davidson County Metropolitan schools, by placing graduate teaching fellows from Vanderbilt and Meharry in Metro classrooms.

North Mississippi GK-12 Project - University of Mississippi

A National Science Foundation funded project that places Univeristy of Mississippi graduate students in the Oxford and Lafayette County public schools to serve as resources for teachers

Mentoring for Science - Harvard Medical School

Part of the Harvard Medical School K-12 Programs, offered by the Minority Faculty Development Program to 8th grade students attending Boston Public Schools to develop skills and solve problems through mentoring relationships with faculty, graduate and college students.

Project Success - Harvard Medical School

Boston and Cambridge minority students are provided with laboratory mentor/advisors and medical/graduate student advisors to provide individual guidance for careers in the biomedical sciences while learning a variety of laboratory experiences, technical skills, scientific knowledge and developing skills for conducting experimental research.

K-12 Education Databases - Johns Hopkins University

Contains facts and figures about various education initiatives sponsored by the Johns Hopkins Institutions. Available information includes the project title and description; primary contact person(s) at Hopkins; target populations, schools/institutions, educational levels, and educational focus(es) addressed, among others.

SUCCEED - Southeastern University and College Coalition for Engineering Education.

SUCCEED is one of several  coalitions involving more than thirty two institutions that comprise the National Science Foundation (NSF) engineering education coalitions program, committed to a comprehensive revitalization of undergraduate engineering education for the 21st Century.

 

Non-Academic Programs:

Mentoring Partnership of Southwestern Pennsylvania

An affiliate of the National Mentoring Partnership, the network of community leaders and organizations collaborates with 26 State and local offices in providing support and resources to enhance quality mentoring and encourage economic self-sufficiency opportunities for youth.

National Mentoring Partnership

Its goal as a Partnership is to meet the nation's mentoring needs by teaming with a wide range of organizations, mentoring providers and mentoring experts.

Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART)

The Center  is a comprehensive, state-of-the-art education reform effort at the secondary level, combining rigorous academics with technical, design, process, entrepreneurial, and critical thinking skills. CART provides a state-of-the-art research and technology facility where students design and complete projects in collaboration with partners from education and the local, national, and international business community.

GEAR UP - Office of Postsecondary Education

GEAR UP funds partnerships of high-poverty middle schools, colleges and universities, community organizations, and business to work with entire grade levels of students. The partnerships provide tutoring, mentoring, information on college preparation and financial aid, an emphasis on core academic preparation and, in some cases, scholarships.

 

Telementoring Programs:

Hewlett-Packard's International Telementor Center

Hosted by the Keystone Center in Keystone Colorado, International Telementor Center facilitates electronic mentoring relationships between professional adults and students worldwide. Its focus is to help students in the critical subject areas of math, science, engineering, communication and career/education planning.

Hotchkiss High School - Mentoring Online Students

Hotchkiss High School, Colorado, offers both online classes and provides a mentor to their students who are taking online classes from post-secondary institutions. The mentor works with the student in choosing appropriate, high quality online classes from reputable institutions.
